The Best Lifestyle Habits That Keep Diseases At Bay

The Best Lifestyle Habits That Keep Diseases At Bay

A scientific saying reminds us that: “We are what we eat.” In that case, the best lifestyle habits that keep diseases at bay is determined largely by what we eat.

Nonetheless,  healthy professionals also say dieting alone is not enough to keep one completely healthy.

Research reveals that it is only when a good diet is combined with daily physical activities can qualify one to have a “Good Lifestyle Habit.

So how can you really prevent diseases with Good Lifestyle Habits? They say you simply follow the right lifestyle habits daily.

But how is it done exactly?

Dos And Don’ts of Good Lifestyle Habits

1. Eat a healthy diet.

2. Maintain a healthy weight.

3. Get enough physical activity.

4. Do not smoke or use other forms of tobacco.

5. Limit or do away with alcohol use.

Healthy Diet

Always choose healthful meals and snack options that help you prevent heart diseases and their complications. Make sure to eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and avoid processed foods.

Eat foods that are low in saturated fats and cholesterol and high in fiber. This helps in preventing high cholesterol levels in your body which otherwise would eventually lead to heart complications and high blood pressure.

Limiting salt (sodium) intake helps to lower your blood pressure.

Low sugar intake in your diet can also reduce your blood sugar levels. This helps control diabetes.

Healthy Weight

Research shows that obesity and or overweight is the main cause for serious illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

Therefore if you desire to lead a healthy life, you must consider ways to lose, and maintain a healthy weight

But how do you determine if your weight is in a healthy range?

This is determined by your Body Mass Index (BMI), which is simply calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters.

Physical Activity

Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight and lower your blood pressure, cholesterol, and sugar levels. For adults, 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise are recommended, like brisk walking or bicycling, while in children and adolescents 1 hour of physical activity daily.

No Smoking

Smoking increases your risk of heart disease and lung cancer. So, if you don’t smoke, then all the better.

Limit Alcohol Intake

Drinking too much alcohol can raise your blood pressure. Doctors recommend 2 drinks for men in a day and only 1 drink for women.

The Bottom Line

Good lifestyle habits entail eating a balanced diet, drinking enough water, having enough daily physical activity, and avoiding smoking and excess alcohol intake.

My advice: put this in practice daily and avoid unnecessary illnesses which are very expensive to treat, or worse, they can cost you your dear life.
